Golf Drawing
2007

(Curator TIm Laun at Rockland Center for the Arts, NY.)

In Lee Walton's Bryan Park Drawings, the artist
collaborates with curators Tim Laun and Lynn Stein to
produce a site specific floor drawing determined by
rounds of golf Walton plays in North Carolina. Many of
Walton's work involves long distance collaborations—
often conducted over the internet with people Walton
has never met—yielding unpredictable results. Typically,
Walton establishes rules for his collaborators to
interpret and work within, but the end result is
unknown. Walton is interested in surrendering control
of the final piece—the completion of the work is
ultimately determined by the other participants. Bryan
Park Drawings is a project developed specifically for the
Rockland Center For the Arts, and will occur throughout
the duration of this exhibition.

Drawing #1
The drawing will be comprised of concentric rectangles
that surround the pedestal. Every stroke in Lee Walton's
round of golf is indicated by a strip of colored electrical
tape corresponding to a side of the pedestal. For
example, if Lee shoots a five on the first hole, the floor
drawing will grow by five strips of tape, tracing five
sides of the pedestal. Each subsequent hole will be
marked in the same fashion, growing outward and
around the previous hole.

The color of the tape will relate to Walton's score on a
particular hole (see below chart). For example, on hole
number one, if Lee shoots par, the color will be COLOR
#5; if he shoots birdie, it will be COLOR #6.

Each hole should be indicated by writing the hole
number on the first stroke of each hole.

Hole in One - Color #1
Eagle - Color #2
Double Birdie - Color #3
Birdie - Color #4
Par - Color #5
Bogie - Color #6
Double Bogie - Color #7
Triple Bogie (and above) - Color #8
