The Victoria and Ron Milstein Fund for Social Practice brings an eminent artist to UNC Greensboro each year who is a prominent and emerging leader within Social Practice.

 

In the Spring 2022, Pablo Helguera was invited to work directly with my Social Practice students to do a project, visit campus, give a talk, and a live radio reading / performance.

 

Post Artist Talk Ceremonial Grilling of the Pepper

The Grilling of The Pepper

 

630 pm Pablo leaves WAM from talk

2 ambassadors hold open doors to the courtyard.

Pablo walks through

He is handed a ceremonial Orange Pepper.

A trumpet is playing

An announcement is made

He is escorted to the Sculpture Yard

As he walks, water is sprayed or spilt on the ground in front of him.

A trumpet is playing

As he is escorted into the sculpture yard, he sees a Grill.

To ambassadors unveil "The Grilling of the Pepper" banner

Pablo gives the Orange Pepper to a pepper cutter.

A trumpet is playing

As the pepper is being prepared for fire a gold box of matches are given to Pablo.

Pablo is instructed to ignite the Grill.

Flames happen.

A trumpet is playing

An announcement is made

Pablo is handed tongs.

Pablo places the pepper on the grill.

A trumpet stops playing
