For this early social practice project, I worked with Silent Gallery to create LAST PLACE: The 2001 (and 2003) Walton Derby.

Participants received a pinewood race car to build and compete against one another. The rules were very simple. The slowest car to cross the finish line would win. All cars that were too fast or did not finish the race were chopped in half. At the end of the night, there was only one car and champion.

This event happened in 2001 at Refusalon Gallery, SF.

The second event happened in 2003 at Southern Exposure, SF. Read an article written about the event in the SF WEEKLY.
